Kardashians Sue Ray J for Defamation Over Criminal Allegations featured image

Ray J has been claiming that Kim Kardashian and Kris Jenner are the subject of a federal criminal racketeering investigation! In response, the Kardashian/Jenner camp has filed a defamation lawsuit. According to TMZ, “Kim and Kris say [these allegations are] just the latest in a decades-long campaign Ray J has waged against them.”

Kim Kardashian and Ray J’s History

Singer and songwriter Ray J had an on-again, off-again relationship with Kim Kardashian from 2003 to 2006. Their relationship didn’t capture the public’s attention, though, until 2007 when their sex tape was leaked.

It was widely believed that Ray J was responsible for leaking the footage, but, in 2022, he came forward to dispute that theory once and for all. According to Page Six, Ray J claims that rumor is “the biggest lie in the industry in the history of entertainment.”

He alleged that Kardashian, Jenner, and himself planned to leak the footage from the start. Page Six reports that the trio “allegedly wanted to mimic the same level of success and fame as their close family friend, Paris Hilton, who had also had a sex tape leaked.” After sharing the tape with Vivid Entertainment, the couple (allegedly) “signed a contract for three tapes”- despite only releasing one.

Kim Kardashian and Kris Jenner refuted Ray J’s allegations but never took legal action. Ray J, however, doubled down on his claims in a since deleted Instagram video, trashing Kim Kardashian and Kris Jenner. The trio has been at odds- to put it mildly- ever since.

Ray J Defamation Lawsuit Details

The reality TV stars hired Alex Spiro as their defamation attorney. Spiro is best known for representing Jay-Z in 2024, when he was accused of sexually assaulting a minor alongside Diddy.

In a statement to TMZ, Spiro highlights the fact that “Kris Jenner and Kim Kardashian have never brought a defamation claim before nor have they been distracted by noise — but this false and serious [RICO] allegation left no choice.” They are seeking compensatory and punitive damages, but the exact amount has not been disclosed. Kim Kardashian and Kris Jenner claim they’ve suffered “substantial and ongoing harm to their personal and professional reputation.”

Court documents cite TMZ’s Tubi doc, “United States vs. Sean Combs,” as evidence. In the documentary, Ray J said, “RICO charges against the Kardashians would be appropriate.” His live stream with Chrisean Rock, however, is the true catalyst for this defamation lawsuit. During the live stream, Ray J claimed he was working with the feds, who had officially launched an investigation into the Kardashians. He continued, alleging that the case against the mom-and-daughter duo was “worse than Diddy.”
